There’s no right way to play baseball, despite assertions from old-timers who watch a ton of games. Many styles of play exist in baseball, and one style may produce great results, but inevitably opens up ways to lose as well. Which style is the most fun to watch? Hard to say…but some fun aspects of the game threaten to rupture its aesthetic. For example, Cubs fans throw opposing teams’ home run balls back into the outfield in protest–fun when the Cubs are losing, but cocky when they are winning. An honest mistake perhaps, but this tone-deafness is also seen everywhere in football. Hmm…a baseball team sucking causes tone-deaf fans, and an entire league sucking causes tone-deaf everyone. Thanks NFL!!
