Hey fans! On the first day when the only active professional American sport is baseball, ESPN opens their morning show by saying a 17-10 score in baseball is actually a “football score.” The rant writes itself! Furthermore, a new book about distraction parallels our discussion about football’s culture not only spreading our attention across 16 games, but rapidly firing multiple distractions in one football game; whereas, in baseball, the desire is to just sit there and watch. Baseball draws us into an event where the “action” may be scattered, but the engagement of our undivided attention gives us the opportunity to reflect upon our lives! Analogy: lying and watching a summer meteor shower.
